Thane Campbell, is the President, founder, and principal of Pro Counsel International Inc. (1995). He has been a certified Agent with the National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA) since certification was first formalized in 1996.
He has advised and represented Jonathan Cheechoo (2006 Maurice Richard Trophy winner), Michael Ryder (2005 Rookie of the year as voted by the players and runner up for the Calder Trophy) and Justin Williams (2006 Stanley Cup winner) for approximately 20 years. He has since expanded this impressive list to include other top NHL prospects.
As a sports lawyer his experience includes appearing successfully in both the Superior Court of Ontario and the Ontario Court of Appeal. He has served as OMHA legal counsel for approximately 20 years.
Thane has played Junior, Senior and University hockey and has coached numerous players who have gone on to professional careers. He works with prospects to ensure they have every opportunity to play in the NHL.
As an experienced agent Thane recognizes each player's needs will differ and it is his job to accommodate these varied needs. He understands the Collective Bargaining Agreement and ensures the rights of the player are protected, and contracts are negotiated in compliance with this agreement. The needs of an NHL player also involve managing or working with accountants, lawyers, financial planners, trainers, investment personnel, dealing with endorsements, assisting with charity events, appearances and signings, and insurance needs.
His primary education includes a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), Masters in Business Administration (M.B.A) as well as an undergraduate Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) (Accounting Major).
Nadia has worked with Thane Campbell for approximately 20 years gaining valuable experience in all areas of player representation. She works with all Pro Counsel clients, from the prospect to the NHL Star. Nadia's experience enables her to provide the support needed including, flight arrangements, hotel accommodations, medical appointments and facilitating training camp needs for all Pro Counsel clients. She works with the insurers, the financial planners, and the accountants. She helps to manage endorsements for the clients, and looks after insurance needs.
Serge lives in Mississauga, and has recently retired from his more than 30 year teaching career. He has been involved in recruitment and mentoring professional prospects for the past 10 years.
Serge's hockey background includes, a level 4 coaching certificate from the Canadian National Coaching Certification Program. He has coached at the AAA level including Co-coaching the Toronto Blackknights since 1991. His coaching experience spands over 20 years. He has worked as a scout for the past 10 years analyzing and evaluating player's skills for the OHL, CHL and NHL drafts. This background enables him to provide valuable feedback to Thane Campbell and Pro Counsel clients.
Stephane lives in Toronto where he has been a teacher for 20 years. He has been involved in working with professional players and prospects for the past 10 years. He has coached at the AAA level including Co-coaching the Toronto Blackknights since 1991.
Like his brother Serge, Stephane has worked closely with, and assisted player's of all levels, including OHL, CHL and NHL.
Tom Coolen joins the staff of Pro Counsel International after 25 years of professional coaching. Mr. Coolen has experience as a coach at the Major Jr., CIS, NCAA, AHL and International levels. He was the Head Coach for several years at Acadia University and the University of New Brunswick. He was Head Coach for the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL, as well as a coach within the Calgary Flames organization.
Tom's European experiences have placed him behind the bench in the Elite leagues of Finland, Switzerland and Germany. He has worked with the Canadian National Team on three occasions, as well as being the Head Coach of Team Atlantic at the World U17 championships.
Mr. Coolen has twice been honoured as the CIS "Coach of the Year", as well as being a three time recipient of the AUS "Coach of the Year" award. He has a degree in Kinesiology and a Masters Degree in Coaching. He is presently completing a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology.
Tom will head up the European placement and recruitment section of our organization, as well as acting as a client development consultant.
